Sherwood Pines - Walking

Image
We awoke to a glorious cloudless sky. Ians turn for Misty and he reported seeing wrens and chaffinches flitting about, and squirrels tempting Misty to chase them (no luck). We lazed about reading the paper and pfaffing before rising to prepare ourselves. No cooking this morning as we had decided to go for a walk in the forest, where our first stop would be the cafe for breakfast. Ian preparing himself in the sun We took a slow stroll up and found a seat outside. Although the sky was blue it had turned chilly so we both had our coats on. It wasn’t long before our full Englishes arrived. They were delicious.  Breakfast on the terrace There was a very annoying family sat near us whose son seemed to be called Jeeves. Jeeves keep climbing on a Chair and attempting to swing himself over the balcony to his death. Mum didn’t seem to care. They also had a load of dogs who were on a lead on entering, then they promptly let them all off to roam between the tables at will, annoying other...

Sherwood Forest - Cycling

Image
We awoke to a cooler day. I got up to let Misty out and take her for a little walk leaving Ian in bed. He had decided he couldn’t be bothered to do the park run after all. Maybe he was feeling a bit down after his front tooth flew out again last night while he was eating an ice cream! Always when we are on holiday! After a breakfast of porridge and toast, Ian got all the bikes set up, including Misty‘s dog trailer and we set off for a cycle around the woods.  Breakfast Preparation underway Misty was very happy in the trailer this time with only a little bit of standing and digging. Ian had chosen a route on one of his apps which kept us mainly on smooth wide roots. We did come to a section where we were expected to cycle up a one in one and through a pair of boulders. We decided to carry on along the old railway line and not the advised route! Unfortunately, this route took us to a very busy A road. At one point, we needed to cross this road and it really was taking your life...

Sherwood Forest - Plumbing

Image
We have many trips coming up over the summer, starting with a short weekend away at Sherwood Pines campsite right next door to Centre Parcs. As it is only a 40min drive away we had a leisurely morning walking the dogs and packing. We left home at 12.45 and arrived at the campsite about 1.30, passing a field full of hares on the way. A very pleasant lady booked us in and offered us our pick of the ‘Select’ pitch we had booked. It’s a very loosey goosey site where you can drive in forward or reverse in. We decided on forward facing the forest. We deployed the technical levelling tool and decided we were just about spot on. No need for the ramps. Gas and electric (no problem) were soon connected and the kettle on. Being a ‘select’ pitch there was a private water tap so Ian put a little bit in. No need for much as we were not staying long. Tools of the trade Into the woods Ian had been quite excited about this trip as he had decided to do some plumbing. The only thing we don’t really ...

Hawes - A waterfall and a Pub

Image
The day dawned bright and dry, again. A veritable heatwave. Ian’s turn for Misty so I rolled over and went back to sleep. It was 9am when I got up to make the coffee. 8am really after the clocks went forward but still. We did the usual pfaffing before I got up to make porridge as Ian was going on a long run. He began to do his back exercises when the old lady next door passed by. Turns out she does the same exercises every morning too! Some children were running around doing an Easter egg hunt presumably organised by the wardens. How nice. Eventually, at 11.40, Ian set off on his long run. Run ready To be honest I was sat twiddling my thumbs a bit while he was gone. I phoned The Allums, washed and tidied up, read a bit, and had some lunch. If I had realised how long he would be I would have taken Misty for a walk. I will know for next time. He had thoroughly enjoyed it though as he returned at five past two.  Happy runner Muddy runner After he had showered and eaten I dragged...
