Hawes - A waterfall and a Pub

The day dawned bright and dry, again. A veritable heatwave. Ian’s turn for Misty so I rolled over and went back to sleep. It was 9am when I got up to make the coffee. 8am really after the clocks went forward but still. We did the usual pfaffing before I got up to make porridge as Ian was going on a long run. He began to do his back exercises when the old lady next door passed by. Turns out she does the same exercises every morning too! Some children were running around doing an Easter egg hunt presumably organised by the wardens. How nice. Eventually, at 11.40, Ian set off on his long run.

Run ready

To be honest I was sat twiddling my thumbs a bit while he was gone. I phoned The Allums, washed and tidied up, read a bit, and had some lunch. If I had realised how long he would be I would have taken Misty for a walk. I will know for next time. He had thoroughly enjoyed it though as he returned at five past two.

After he had showered and eaten I dragged him off on a walk, after all I had been sat about for hours! We strolled through Hawes, past the world famous (🤷🏻‍♀️) Wensleydale Creamery, and on to the little village of Gayle where we picked up the path to the lovely Aysgill Force waterfall. It was very muddy in places but worth it. Misty had a few little paddles along the way but ended up getting just as muddy again each time.

Lovely Aysgill Force

To say it was Easter Sunday and Hawes was rammed with people, we barely saw anyone up there. Beyond the waterfall there was a narrow little bridge over the river where, in attempting to get a nice photo, Ian almost pushed Misty off!

Paddling

Nearly drowning

There were two paths back, one over the fields which we decided to take. Alas, we fell at the first hurdle as Misty was too fat for one of the hole in the wall stiles and we had to turn back.

Fatty

The way back afforded stunning views over Hawes and the valley, we even walked the Pennine way for about a metre.

Back in Hawes the last of the Easter motorbikes were heading out of town leaving room outside a pub for a half of Theakstons old peculiar before we wended our weary (some more so then others) way back to the campsite. I threw together a quick chilli for tea which went well with a nice glass of Cabali.

Washing up done we settled down to watch The Antiques Roadshow and the next instalment of  FBI agents acting stupidly before retiring.

It was great fun watching the couple across get their electric hob set up. They were having a massive shouty row! Brilliant
