Sherwood Forest - Cycling

We awoke to a cooler day. I got up to let Misty out and take her for a little walk leaving Ian in bed. He had decided he couldn’t be bothered to do the park run after all. Maybe he was feeling a bit down after his front tooth flew out again last night while he was eating an ice cream! Always when we are on holiday! After a breakfast of porridge and toast, Ian got all the bikes set up, including Misty‘s dog trailer and we set off for a cycle around the woods.

Preparation underway

Misty was very happy in the trailer this time with only a little bit of standing and digging. Ian had chosen a route on one of his apps which kept us mainly on smooth wide roots. We did come to a section where we were expected to cycle up a one in one and through a pair of boulders. We decided to carry on along the old railway line and not the advised route! Unfortunately, this route took us to a very busy A road. At one point, we needed to cross this road and it really was taking your life in your hands. There was also a section with a gate across where Ian had to do some nifty cycling over some moguls. Eventually, our route circled back to the visitor centre, where we indulged in coffee and cake with Ian buying misty some bark burgers.

Back at Dame Shirley I went for a shower (pushbutton) then Ian decided to take his park run by himself. I was sat outside but the weather took a turn for the worse with the temperature dropping, leaving me freezing so I retired inside to listen to the football scores. Sadly, Rotherham got beat at Swansea.

Back from his run Ian showered, by which time the fish and chip van had arrived. I had brought an emergency quiche but

Soon after I got a phone call from a strange number. Thank god I answered as Monty and Amy had escaped from home! A lady caught Monty dodging the traffic on Moorgate but Amy had disappeared. Ian phoned Chris who rescued Monty and set out in pursuit of Amy. We were really worried back at Dame Shirley. I conquered my fear and posted on both Facebook and Nextdoor. Then Ian had a brilliant idea. Springfield emergency vets is open 24hrs so he phoned them. Thankfully someone had taken her there. They had been trying to phone a number from her tag, presumably grandma, but had no luck! Soon Chris was on his way to collect her, I was ordering a new tag off Amazon, and Ian was pouring a big glass of wine! Bloody dogs

I missed you

After all the trauma we watched the 1% club then retired, exhausted, for the night.

I actually got a map out of the useless OS app this time

See the very wide London to Glasgow highway only used by speeding lorries!

Another Rollerteam has arrived in the ‘select’ section. That’s three of us in here now. The posse made a very nice looking breakfast on a couple of hot plates. They have a long, dormitory table set up with loads of folding chairs. Where do these people transport these things? Later on they made a very nice looking tea of sausage and burgers on the hot plate. The family next door spent a comfortable first night in their caravan. ‘Better than a tent’.

  1. What an eventful day. Glad you got the dogs home safely. Shame about the tooth.
