Kingsbury Water Park - An old friend

One week after I returned from Orlando we were due to have a weekend in Devizes for Ian to run the 10k with Vicky. Sadly his weak hamstring had still not mended so he could not run. We still wanted to go down south to visit Heather and David so changed the booking. The first night would be at a dear old friend. Kingsbury water park Camping and Caravnning club site. We stayed here in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games when Vicky and I were volunteering.

Ian did half a days work while I walked the dogs then we had a trouble free journey down to Birmingham. Good old HS2 seemed to be in exactly the same state of readiness as it was in 2012. What a white elephant that is. I had booked a grass pitch, no electric, as the website said that was the only type left, but on arrival the site was half empty. The nice warden lead us over to our grass pitch, where a jamboree seemed to be going on with music, laughter, and even a basketball hoop. Not wanting to interfere with the young ones ‘pleasure’ Ian asked Mrs Warden if there were any hard standing, electric, on the other side of the site, pitches available. Transpires there were loads and we flip flopped in short order over to ‘The Oval’ where we had stayed before. The Moorgate class neighbourhood of KWP.

Dame Shirl was soon in situ and the kettle on for a cuppa.

Ready for tea

After tea we had a walk up the canal as far as Fishers Mill bridge where Ian took some lovely photos

We also spotted some interesting mushrooms that I have been unable to identify. Any ideas?

What are you?

We then walked back down the canal, past the campsite, and on to the Dog and Doublet. We had visited this pub before during our Commonwealth games days. In fact it was in this very spot that we met, much to Alex’s delight, one of the few remaining ‘Ever Presents’ from the London marathon. No such luck today, but we did have a very nice lamb curry.

Curry and Beer

Replete, we wandered back to Dame Shirl and watched an Impossible (sorry Chris!) in which the £10,000 question involved National Parks in California (easy peasy), then tried our hand at last Sundays pub quiz (rock hard), before retiring for the night.

Tomorrow we move on to Henley
