Carsington Water - Saint Monty

If you recall, we closed the door on Monty’s confused face and went off to bed. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock soon after and it was 8am! I had heard nothing during the night or early morning. No children, no birds, no Ian going to the loo, and most importantly no Monty. Ian got up to make coffee, and there he was, his lovely confused face looking back at us. Ian fed him and took him out while I made coffee and battened down the hatches in the bedroom. I had fetched a big blankie to cover the bed so he could jump up. But sadly (happily in Ian’s eyes) he cannot manoeuvre enough to leap up. So there he lay at the bottom of the bed just being good.

After a lovely long pfaff I made the first day Full English, Monty didn’t even get under my feet (much).

We then pfaffed a bit more before setting off on another walk, this time to the visitor centre down the other end of the lake. The weather was a bit cool for the hot spell, so I dithered about what to wear, finally deciding on Ian’s jumper. (Not the baby blue one that he promised me). I was glad of it as I walked along the dam wall that encloses one side of the lake. We had a good time watching the boats and birds, and Monty was fantastic with the other dogs, of which there were many.

The visitor centre was heaving as the sun had eventually come out. We found a drink for Monty, which, unlike all the other dogs, he didn’t turn his nose up at. Then carried on a bit to Stone Island. This is a fun little island with a pretend Stonehenge and a few sculptures. It is also very sheltered and there were a lot of picnickers.

Walking Saint Monty

Back at the visitor centre we had a coffee in a nice little square while Monty sat and watched the world (and many other dogs) go by. Then it was time for an ice cream.

After all the fun we strolled back along the dam wall. About half way along the wind just disappeared, and all the sailing boats stopped dead. It was eerie! Nothing was moving. Then a few minutes later the wind reappeared and off they went again.

We arrived back at Dame Shirley just as the wood fired pizza man was setting up, so Ian went off to order one. We then sat and watched a very satisfactory FA Cup Final in which Crystal Palace beat Man City. All the while Monty was sat outside at his stake watching the world, people, children, many many dogs, go by.

Cup Final watched Ian went off for the pizza (very nice, no photo) before we settled down to watch Eurovision. No we didn’t!! Hell would freeze over. We watched an old episode of Jeopardy, and some SAS Who Dares Wins. Saint Monty went out for a little bedtime walk, on which he was a saint, and we closed the door on his sweet little confused face and went to bed.

Musings

Children aren’t always noisy and annoying.
Pep Guaridola is always noisy and annoying.
The guy next door with a massive orange land rover may be a footballer.
The guy diagonally across is definitely a Man City fan and was not too impressed with our cheering.
Monty is a Saint.
