Northumberland -River Breamish

Sadly, Monty was naughty in the night again, full on barking until Ian opened the connecting door and let him see us. We all went back to sleep till around 8am when some cows came into Dame Shirley and woke us up. Well they sounded like they were inside. We didn’t even know we had cows on the doorstep. 8am isn’t a bad rising time, so I fed Monty and took him for his morning stroll. It was moving on day and we had to be off by midday. Plenty of time for pfaffing and chilling. We had porridge once again then sat outside in glorious sunshine, with sun tan lotion on our noses. At 11.30 we began to batten down the hatches. By 11.45 we were ready to depart. We loved Beadnell campsite, it’s one of our all time favourites, so we were sad to depart. We will hopefully be back next year for Ian to do his run.

It was less than an hour to our next site, we would be staying at River Breamish Caravan and Motorhome site, in the Cheviots, for the next three nights. As Sir Georgie Kelly has been a little naughty recently I was very worried when he took us on the B2351637773! Especially as there was a road narrows sign, then a narrow road narrows sign. But thankfully no ‘Gates’. It turned out I should have trusted a Rotherham United legend as the road was really scenic and we didn’t meet another car. We arrived a couple of minutes before 1pm, a big no, no in campsite terms. However, it’s a very small site and we were one of the few arrivals. We had lots of choice of pitch, and even managed to work out the best pitch to suit us. Near to toilets and near to dog walk. And there is no playground! There are however, as the warden gleefully told me, Adders. After we chose our pitch we even remembered to use the compass to fathom out the best direction to pitch, sun wise. We chose pitch 45.

Ian got her set up then I made a sandwich and we sat outside, just chilling.

Some much needed relaxation

After lunch we had a walk to the information room and chose a walk for tomorrow, then did a circuit of the very beautiful dog walk. We even came across a small sports field that is not marked on the map.

It was time for my afternoon nap when we got back to Dame Shirley, and after that I prepared a quiche with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank potato’s, which we ate inside as the temperature had dropped.

Quiche and Jimmys

We ventured outside for a bit with a glass of red afterwards, but the cool drove us indoors to watch the first episode of The Assassin, a preposterous action series starring Keeley Hawes. Then time for bed. We have an actual walk planned for tomorrow.

Musings

I am quite afraid of coming across an adder.

I am still not sure about Sir Georgie Kelly either.

Sally has been a game changer in the comfort stakes.

Chris collected our season tickets so we are good to go for the big kick off.

I love a skein of geese.

  2. Heather and I are enjoying your holiday vicariously. Beamish River seems a wild and lonely place, is there a bus?

  3. We are not too far off the A69(?). I’m sure there will be buses to Alnwick and Wooler. We are happy walking though, everything we need is within a 10-15 minute walk.

Sally is the name mums new tv spookily gave itself when we were setting up the app. We daren’t click on it for ages as we thought it might be someone else’s tv, but it was the only option available
