Northumberland - Beadnell Bay

We always said that it could never be Saint Monty barking in the mornings at home. Sadly I have to tell you that around 7.45am he began with small yips, which morphed into full on barks. Luckily it was Ian’s turn to get up. We had plans for a very lazy day today. I know, most of our days are pretty lazy, but this was to be extra lazy. Porridge was on the menu for breakfast, and we ate outside as the sun was out and it’s very sheltered on the door side of Dame Shirley.

Sunny porridge

After breakfast I washed up while Ian decided to tidy his garage. It looked like a jumble sale when he got everything out. Good job we are up weighting soon.

Roll up, roll up

Around 1pm we had a lovely walk into Beadnell Bay and along the beach. Monty was very snappy to another dog once again so had to be put back on the lead. The beach was packed, as in Northumberland style packed, with loads of paddle boarders having loads of fun.

Beadnell Bay Beach

After having fun at the beach, we took a footpath to the village where we ended up at the Craster Arms. That area of the village is chock full of tea rooms and pubs, and a beautiful ‘dog friendly’ church! The Craster Arms itself was very pleasant. We sat in the beer garden chatting and people watching and eating. I had pie and Ian had a bacon chop.

Sated, we returned the short distance to Dame Shirley via the little village shop. Our next site is in the middle of nowhere and who knows when we will see food for sale again.

It was cool outside, but very bright sun, and we both got sunburned faces. Ian decided to sit out while I retired for my afternoon nap. As twilight was approaching we crossed over the road to the beach one last time. The light was incredible, the tide was in, it was magical.

Beautiful beach

And a golden Monty

Back at Dame Shirl we sat outside for a while before the chill drove us in. Not before we watched another glorious sunset. We watched the latest Only Connect and University Challenge before crashing. Lazy days can be very tiring.

Musings

Monty is not the good dog I thought he was.

Beadnell bay campsite is very peaceful, even though there are loads of kids.

A roof tent looks very unstable.
