The Lakes - Keswick

Today was to be moving day. We were up and breakfasted early (for us) and it was such gorgeous weather we ate outside. We chilled for a short while before preparing for departure. The posh pitches make it so much easier. No driving over the grey waste dump and waiting ages for it to drain. Plus, we hadn’t put the canopy up.

10am in Knaresborough

It would take us two hours to transfer to Keswick, up the A1 then the A66. The A66 was slow as usual, but we found a lay-by to stop and have some lunch. Round about 2.30 we were arriving at the site. Most of the club sites have a policy where you arrive after 1pm, Keswick is no exception. The thing we noticed here last year was that everyone arrives at 1pm causing a massive queue. Arriving later means the queue is gone, but also most of the best pitches too. All the Super Service Pitches are on the front three rows by the lake. We were hoping for a front row, but alas we had a choice of two, both on the back row, by our old favourite, the children’s playground! Never mind. We got set up and had a walk along the lakeshore. It was freezing, blowing a gale.

Freezing lakeside

We needed more vittels so we had a walk into Keswick, past the pitch we had last year. In this section, away from the lake, the sun was shining and it was hot, hot, hot. Everyone was sunbathing. You live and learn. After a stroll round town we called at Booths, the very posh very expensive supermarket near the site, and got the makings of a barbecue. Back at the site, after my afternoon nap, Ian set it up behind Dame Shirley for protection from the stiff breeze. It was lovely. Chicken drumsticks, steak, beef burgers, jacket potatoes and salad. All in full view of Skiddaw. Things were looking up.

Amazing barbecue

There’s Skiddaw

Sated, we had some coffee then went off to do the washing up. We packed stuff away and went inside due to the chill, and watched a ‘bridge of lies’. Then time for bed for me. These holidays are tiring for us oldies.

Musings

I still prefer arriving that bit later and getting what I’m given.

Three lads on ‘Bridge of Lies’ went for Dennis being the capital of the Isle of Man!

Happily, there appear to be no children in Keswick

Motorhome barbecues are amazing
