The Lakes - Kendal
Moving day. But still a heatwave. I awoke with a huge, red, hot, swollen arm. I had been keeping it cool with a flannel all night but it was still spreading. As I knew the exact moment it happened, 1.33 on Weds, there was no point in visiting my friendly local pharmacist for antibiotics. It needs to be 48 hrs after the bite. Never mind, I would flannel on.
We had worked out that it was only an hour to our next site in Kendal. We had to be out of Keswick by twelve, and could not access Kendal till one. So we had to time it just right. Also we had time for a lazy morning. Once again everyone was up and about, cycling, swimming, water using. It’s lovely just to sit and watch the world go by. Porridge for breakfast again, then I had a stroll to Booths. I hadn’t noticed but we were nearly out of coffee grounds.
I decided against using the self service tills as one of the human tills only had one person in front. A bit of a delay was caused as there was some soil in the woman’s conveyer belt. Then a long delay as the couple in front had no money in their bank. They both had to do lots of voodoo on their phones, presumably transferring money from offshore accounts, before they could eventually pay. I have sympathy at Booths prices.
Once I got back we people watched some more, well I did, Ian was busy in the mutual commiseration London Marathon Facebook group. Around 11.30 we set about battoning down the hatches for departure. At exactly noon we sadly left Keswick Camping and Caravanning site. Will we return? Not sure as there are so many places left to visit. We do love it though.
Despite a few recent scares, Sir Georgie Kelly (KBE) directed us unerringly to Kendal Caravan and Motorhome club site. We arrived at 1.07. Job done. Usually the CAMC let you pick your own pitch, but due to differing pitch sizes and us going once again for the Premiere Pitch type, we had been assigned pitch 82.
Kendal is a very spread out site with lots of little sections. Pitch 82 is in Lakeland Heights (there is no lake) quite a way from the facilities block. It’s also a strange shape and Ian had to shuffle in sideways. There are four super pitches in our section of Lakeland heights. I wasn’t sure at first, but once Ian got the canopy out and we were all settled I quite like it. The guy in the next caravan isn’t sure either. He has just come from River Breamish site in Northumberland which is amazing. We are booked in to River Breamish in July. Another caravan arrived as we sat down for a pleasant lunch, so we judged them as the guy used his robot reverser. He was excellent with it and got into a tight space.
