Torchlight - Heather Small

Image
Another lovely nights sleep then I got up with Misty before we settled in for pfaffing. No rush today as nothing began till 2.30. I made lovely sausage and egg sandwiches while Ian did his back exercises, after which Ian went in search of an elusive Elsan point. There are several on the map but we haven’t managed to see one in the wild yet. He returned triumphant and took the toilet away to empty. He also poured the grey waste (mucky water) in the woods as directed. We both chilled a bit, literally in my case as the weather had changed and I was freezing, before having a spot of lunch then wandering up to see Fake Kate Bush. She was excellent and I managed to belt out my rendition of ‘Wuthering Heights’ with gusto. Fake Kate We returned to Dame Shirley again, and after a while Ian went and fetched us a lukewarm pizza and some chips. The food hasn’t really been much cop here.  Next up was my favourite act of the weekend. Toyah. She was brilliant and had so much energy, she is ...

Torchlight - Soul2Soul

We had the best lie in. After a very peaceful nights sleep none of us stirred till 8.30, not even Misty. The constant drone of the generator had become like a comfort blanket and all else was silent. It was Ian’s turn for Misty so he donned his Dry Robe, much to the delight of the Area Steward (or our leader as we like to call him) who lives just over the way. We did the usual morning pfaffing before Ian leapt up to go for a run. While he was gone I had a Dame Shirley shower and made a stunning full English. Sadly no photos remain of this event, but there is one of Ian half way through a Heather Patch. Ian in the Heather patch After eating Ian rushed off to the camp showers, which he had explained as being like the ones at school with a central bench for changing and leaving your clothes. ‘Were they busy?’ I asked. ‘No, only me.’ He replied. ‘ Until a lady came in to clean while I was drying off!’ Oh how we laughed.  We had noticed many people headed up to the arena early wit...

Torchlight - The Beatles

The time for our second motorhome festival had come around already. This one, the Camping and Caravanning clubs ‘Torchlight’ was to be held at Walesby Forest near Ollerton. Just a 45min drive from home. Ian worked as normal while I loaded Dame Shirley up and as soon as he arrived home at 6pm we were off. I was so excited that I forgot we were taking Misty with us! Luckily Ian remembered. As we drove the short way we mused whether this would be a lower class of festival, being that tents were allowed too. We decided that it cost so much that it would put off the riff raff. Sir Georgie Kelly directed us unerringly till we got to the A1 at Sherwood Forest. We then spotted yellow signs for Torchwood in a different direction. We decided to follow those and arrived in half the time to be met by a very nice steward. He directed us on to a lovely flat pitch only two rows back from the heart of the festival. It would be noisy but very convenient. Sadly it was raining a little so we left th...

Exeter - For the footie

Footballs back! After a summer with only The Euros and The Olympics to watch, the 2024/25 EFL football league Division 1 season was about to begin. In Exeter. No home or local Derby fixture for us. It was to be a 450 mile round trip to the furthest ground in the division. Still, it was still summer and a nice long weekend away in Dame Shirley sounded perfect. We would leave after lunch on Friday, as soon as Ian got home from work. Sadly, as soon as Ian got home from work he got an emergency call from grandmas carers. Her hearing aid wasn’t working, again. Off he trotted to sort that, but it didn’t take too long and at 2pm we were ready to depart. We left all the lads and grandma in  Chris’s excellent hands, again, and off we went, to the South. Misty could not come once more due to football and heat. I had planned this weekend with meticulous detail. We would stay the first leg at Tewksbury Abbey Caravan and Motorhome club site. We had actually stayed here before in the carav...
