Keswick - Rain
It was Saturday. Park run day. Ian had decided to get up early and compete. It was along the old railway line where we cycled a couple of days ago. I stayed in bed and lazed. He returned not too long after leaving with a big smile and a new personal best. Well done Ian!
We had decided that, as rain was forecast, we wouldn’t do too much today. After Ian showered we had a nice breakfast of porridge and sausage sandwiches left over from the barbecue. At this point we were still able to sit outside. Indeed we had a nice conversation with our good pal from next door who had already been out. He had been on the bus when it hit the ice cream man’s sign due to a bad woman driver.
We then had a bit of a stroll into town, where, being Saturday in Keswick, you couldn’t move. There were a lot of Italian school kids causing bottlenecks. We bought some nice cakes for lunch. As we returned to the site, just before one, the queue of new motorhomes and caravans waiting to get in stretched for miles. Just arrive a bit later lads!
Back at Dame Shirley we settled down for an afternoon of Athletics watching. The diamond league was from London with a lot of the Olympic athletes on show. The rain began soon after it started, first light, then pretty torrential. Some poor souls were arriving in tents and having to put them up in the rain, as we sat with our feet up commenting on Noah Lyles new personal best.
A bit later, I showered, then we braved the rain for a meal at the Fellpack. I had booked this one a couple of weeks ago as it is very popular. You can see why. Nice ambience, pleasant staff, lovely food,. The cocktail wasn’t half bad either.
As we strolled back through Crow Park, the rain had virtually stopped, and we were treated to some fantastic views of the hills with mist clinging to them. Once again it was straight to bed. We had had a hard day.
Neighbour watch
We had a good time watching who put their tent up quicker in the rain. A blow up one, or a normal frame. The blow up won.
Nature watch
Nothing but a few geese

My new 5k PB was 24:44 on a course that was basically 2.5km up hill and back down again, so quite tough.
ReplyDeleteOn the wildlife front I saw a bat 🦇
I was thinking about the blow up tents as I saw a lot of people with them at Silverstone and they looked much easier to put up than our tent! But then, Alex does all the putting up, so it doesn’t affect me with way 😅
