Keswick - The bikes are out

True to the vagaries of this summer, we awoke to a chill in the air. I say awoke, we eventually awoke. We had a lovely lie in till about 8.30. We miss Misty but it does mean no one has to get up when she does. After pfaffing I prepared a full English which we ate outside, wearing jumpers.

Nice full English

More chilling ensued, before Ian got chatting to a passing man who had a motorhome that didn’t suit him. That took a while. Eventually we started to prepare for a bike ride. That also took time. Incidentally I ended up wearing two jumpers it was so cold. In the end it was about 2pm before we set out from the site to brave the Keswick traffic. Keswick is very very busy, but we did manage to arrive at our start point just about alive. There was an incident involving a large muddy puddle and one of Ian’s running shoes, but he battled on manfully.

We were planning to cycle along an old railway line, starting at the old station, then along some tiny roads to the old Castlerigg Stone Circle. It was a lovely ride, and we even found a nice cafe with lovely views for a coffee. Well the views would have been lovely if they weren’t laying a patio.

Blissful!

Really Blissful

At the old stone circle

The route back down into Keswick involved a steep hill where Ian reached 30mph and I reached about 5mph, brakes on all the way.
We then decided to brave the Keswick traffic again, come out of the other side, and see a bit of the lake from the West shore. Sadly we couldn’t see it from the road but the scenery was lovely again.
We braved the Keswick traffic again on the way back to the site, and only then did I remove my second jumper.

The orange route is us

Not everywhere was cold today

We were going to barbecue tonight but due to the single digit temperatures we decided not to. After our shower we walked into town and had a lovely special meal at The Thyme Bistro. Cod for me and lamb (no mint) for Ian.

Lamb with attitude

Nice bit of cod

Then it was back to Dame Shirley, where we sat outside for a nightcap as it had warmed up a bit. Keswick temperatures are all over the shop.

Neighbour watch

We are not happy. Now we are surrounded totally. It’s like Rourkes drift.

Not happy

Nature watch

Just the usual bunnies and pheasant strutting about the campsite. Nice big dragonfly.

News watch
