Clubfest - Wannabee Scouting for Girls
We had a good sleep in the quiet zone. No pesky alarms going off overnight. It was a bit chilly so, despite my pleading with him not to, Ian put the heating on. It was Sophie’s choice (to me) whether he went gas or electric. He chose electric and I lay there expecting a big bang at any moment. Luckily all was well. We lazed in bed a lot before having porridge and toast for breakfast then sitting outside in the sun for a bit. I noticed a lot of the other, presumably seasoned, festival goers have flags and light up poles. Indeed the electric trip man has a huge light up pole and a flag. Ian says no. ☹️. In case you were wondering about my remark re Butlins, here is the schedule for the next two days. Activities begin at seven but we haven’t even considered the earlier ones. Such as the quiz began at 10am today. Ridiculous.
I am not getting involved with anything to do with water, and sadly the crafty things you have to have done already. I imagine the kids are having a whale of a time. Speaking of which there are two in the caravan opposite. In the quiet zone for gods sake.
When we were prepared we headed down to the centre to look for the lake. After two sausage rolls, a pasty, and some orange juice, we found it. It is amongst the Weston Park gardens, and the whole area is lovely, especially now with the rhododendrons out.
We then wandered over to the house where we had coffee and flapjack in their cafe, and used their real toilets.
We then strolled back up to Dame Shirley, past a very impressive tree, to watch the cup final.
After watching Man U beat Man City we got our glad rags on, ( well I changed trainers) loaded up Viktor ( the little ones thought trolley needed a name and Viktor was chosen), fed Misty, and headed back down to Central Park. We forced our way through the crowd to choose a more central position than yesterday, set up our pitch, and headed off to buy curry.
More and more people were arriving, some went to the back, some just forced their way right to the front. We were quite happy with our spot and we soon had the wine out, although it was noticeably cooler than yesterday.
First up was a spice girls tribute band called Wannabe. Unfortunately, no matter how much they Wannabe like the spice girls, it’s not happening. Baby was about my age, Posh was four times the size (not difficult as Victoria is the thinnest woman in Britain), and not one of them could hold a note! To be fair, Ginger did have a look of Geri Halliwell about her, but it was probably just the wig. Sadly for them, they went down like a lead balloon. Us Motorhomers are a hard audience.
By the time the Spice Girls had exited the crowd was almost filling the field. As I looked around I realised I had made a schoolgirl error. I had not brought my Papa Johns 2022 bucket hat. I will rectify that for my next festival in August.
The headliner for the night was ‘Scouting for Girls’. Luckily for us and them they were brilliant. The lead singer had us all in the palm of his hand from minute one, Ian and I knew all the songs, and everyone, even the oldies, were on their feet. At one point he had us all lifting our dogs in the air, Misty looked totally bemused! Looking back the field was awash with bouncing old people and the sky was amazing as the sun set. A night to remember.
After the excitement of waving Misty above our heads, we finished off the wine before Me, Ian, Misty and Viktor wound our way back up the hill in the dark to Dame Shirley, still singing ‘Elvis isn’t Dead cos I heard him on the Radio’. Then it was straight to bed.
Kylie and Jason are going to have to go some tomorrow!

Apart from you all having another great day David and I need to know what was the second essential thing you bought to take with you.
