Clubfest - Toploader

It was quite sunny when Ian rose to drag Misty around the bins. We lazed for a bit then I made sausage and bacon sarnies for breakfast. As we were eating a Hi Vis man came along on his tractor. The couple next door stopped him and asked about getting off. Ian was ear wigging and the upshot was if you get stuck put your hazards on and they will come and rescue you. Everyone will get out alive. Phew! Nevertheless a few people were departing, including the caravan next door. Not Toploader fans presumably. That opened up a bit of a space for us for tomorrow.

There was on again off again sun/showers all morning, and by the time we had got ready it was 1pm. We are not early departers. We headed down to the arena where Ian got a toastie, then went off to do some browsing. Luckily he came back empty handed except for coffee and a raspberry chocolate brownie. The rain kept coming in fits and starts but we stayed to watch a folk band called Superphone on the second stage. Glad we did as they were excellent. They mentioned Jason was rubbish.

And in the sun

We cheered them off the stage then decided to head back to Dame Shirley and collect Viktor for the evening. We passed the chip van and Ian had a poke of chips. By this time it was quite warm and sunny.

Back at Dame Shirley, Ian chilled with a beer then we loaded Viktor up and returned to the arena. We listened to Jonny 2 Bad on the second stage. Not rock and roll, as I thought, or The Sex Pistols, as Ian thought. Although why their tribute band would be at Clubfest I don’t know! They are a UB40 tribute. People loved them, but we just snoozed in the sun with their music wafting over us. They did a good version of Red, Red Wine though, causing me to wave mine in the air. They mentioned that they had heard Jason was rubbish.

Then we moved over to the main stage for KaiserMonkeyKillers, an Indie tribute more to our taste. They were really good. We got talking to a couple from Burton who thought Jason was rubbish. They are also off to Torchlight later in the year. Festival season is in full swing!! Ian headed over to the food vans and came back with gyros, very nice. Then we poured more wine and chatted some more.

The final Headliner was Toploader. Never heard of them. A quick text to the group found they had sung ‘dancing in the moonlight’ but nothing else. And that one of their members is one of Chippenhams most famous sons. We soon found out that we knew none of their songs, but they engaged well with the crowd, who seemed to know all of their songs, especially the family in front with two young children. They were having a whale of a time, mostly on their parent’s shoulders. They finished with, yes you guessed it, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, bringing Clubfest to a close.

We wound our way back up, dragging Misty and Viktor, and retired for the night listening to the rain on the roof. Now just the small matter of getting out in the morning.
