Clubfest - Jason

We awoke to the sound of rain on the roof. Indeed, there was a severe weather warning for most of the world with biblical floods and a plague of frogs forecast. Never mind the gas and electric, what about getting bogged down in the mud!?

Misty isn’t bothered about rain of course so I got up and dragged her round a bit before returning, bedraggled, to Dame Shirley. Much lazing around followed before I got up and made a full English.

Dame Shirley Breakfast

Half way through a Hi Vis man came to the door to tell us they were flying the yellow flag. And? This means no movement around the site today in vehicles to preserve the ground. Why would he tell me that?! In one way I was quite pleased as we are forever stepping off the path for car drivers (presumably with caravans) who can’t be bothered to walk.

After breakfast it was acutely quite nice, so Ian and Misty did their back exercises while I washed up.

Stretching

Looking at the sky we decided to have a lazy Motorhome day until it was time for The Wurzels at 4pm. We both had a Dame Shirley shower. It’s really good but the water monitor is fierce. Thus spruced up we sat outside and read. Showers came and went but under the canopy was dry. Many other festival goers had the same idea as us.

I feel this is the time to mention my second essential purpose. Alas this one hasn’t been as successful as Viktor. I bought some lovely solar lights from Tesco to wrap around the canopy guy ropes. I should have charged them up before we came really, when we had sun. But the lack of any means no light in the lights. I will make sure they are working for next time.

No light lights

As the afternoon progressed the showers became heavier so we sacrificed The Wurzels for the play off final. Southampton beat Leeds to return to the prem triggering a lovely Rainbow.

Well done Saints

After that I threw together a quiche and chips as we prepared to go and see Rogue Minogue. See what the Kylie tribute did there? We loaded Viktor up with all the essentials again, but Ian’s back was a bit stiff so he had to do more exercises. Thank god he did as we were treated to the promised biblical storm. The rain lashed down, blowing under the canopy and soaking Viktor and his contents. We decided Kylie wasn’t worth the drenching, rescued the wet wine from Viktor, and put a serial on Netflix that we have been watching.

By the end of the serial (we watched the last two episodes, the wife was the killer all along) the sun had come out. In our fourth swerve of the day we decided to leave Viktor and Misty at Dame Shirley and just take ourselves down, clad in boots and thick coats, to see Jason Donovan.

The light after the storm

We arrived just as he was beginning and forced our way to the front off to the side so we could lean on the barrier. I have to say Jason cannot sing. We did know most of his songs as he did a few covers, but he wasn’t a patch on Scouting for Girls. There was a lovely sunset though.

 Sunset over Clubfest

After Jason had played us out with ‘Too many broken hearts’ we wound our way back up the hill which took half the time without Viktor and Misty. We got talking to a couple who also thought Jason couldn’t sing but were very impressed with Rogue Minogue. You win some you lose some. We also had to step into the mud several times for cars with people who can’t be bothered to walk in them. So much for the Yellow flag. Back at Dame Shirley Ian took Misty round the block then we all retired for the night. I’m hoping for a better day weather wise tomorrow.

  1. Shame about the rain but you seem to have a good day apart from Jason. I really thought he could sing!
