The Lake District - Ingleton

The sun was shining as we awoke for the final time at Waterfoot Park. For an emergency site it’s been pretty good. We’ve had a great few days by Ullswater, despite the push button showers. Our next emergency stop would be our last, and was only an hour away. Nevertheless we stopped at Tebay services as it was advertised as a farm shop and I like that kind. It was absolutely heaving! I bought some bread but we couldn’t get near the cafe for coffee. It does have excellent Motorhome parking though so we filed that away for later.

The site we were headed for was Thornbrook Barn in Ingleton. I had a hankering for a nostalgic trip to the waterfalls. On booking we were told we were pitch 12, just head for that. There was no one there to great us. Despite the ghostly feel, Thornbrook Barn is a fabulous site. Pitch 12 has views over to two of the three peaks, Ingleborough and Whernside, and also the other way to the lakes. I noticed that it is also on NCR 38. Great for another time with Misty in the trailer. The toilet block is very new and spotless, with art on the walls and lift music playing. It has a very nice information room, especially good as there is no one to ask. And it has an enclosed dog field which appears to be solely for Misty’s use.

Dame Shirley on pitch 12

We had a nice lunch using Tebay bread then chilled out for a bit before having a walk into Ingleton to look around. We are about a mile away, some of the walk is on pavements and some on quiet roads. We noticed that just across the main A65, which is pretty close to Thornbrook, is the Country Kitchen. An ‘award winning’ farm shop. If we need anything and I fancy taking my life in my hands I could cross the road and get it. They also have a huge Christmas selection.

On into Ingleton we passed the entrance to the falls and did a circuit of the town, mainly looking for eateries for tomorrow. It didn’t take long. Back at Dame Shirley we chilled some more then had a walk to the Manton Arms at nearby Thornton in Lonsdale.

With Misty ensconced under the table we had another very pleasant meal. The guys on the table behind were discussing their three peaks walk for which they would be leaving at five am with the waitress. Ian fancies it but not me. A walk up one of them would suffice!

After the meal we turned on our torches and Misty’s light up collar and headed back to Thornbrook Barn just in time to watch Sheff Weds get beaten 3-0 on Sky.

A walk into Ingleton and back

Neighbour watch

There are other units here but not really seen any people.

Dinner watch

Nice food at the Manton Inn. I had the lamb with peas and bacon. To Ian’s disgust there was no mint anywhere on it. 8/10. Ian went for the whole sea bass as he was afraid of mint. He did seem to struggle with the bones. 7/10
