Scotland -Glasgow Green

It was Vicky's last shift today so I got up early and took her to the station at 7 am. When I returned I made coffee and Ian and I lazed about a bit. We had a crossword off which Ian won. You may have noticed I have not mentioned the crossword off very much. This is because I have not won the crossword off. My eyes have been too blurry at that time in the morning. Bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast, and as it was a lovely morning we ate them outside in the Sun.

Alex came across and had coffee, before heading off to catch the bus and train to Stirling. He wanted to see the time trials which started and ended at Stirling Castle. As a keen cycling aficionado he wanted to see as many of the road races as he could.

Meanwhile Ian and I jumped in the car, passing The Hole, and headed to Blantyre station to catch the train into central Glasgow where we would meet Vicky after her shift. The Hole had become even bigger with more trucks and men drafted in.

First things first, lunch. We found a very posh shopping centre with a lovely scotch restaurant serving scotch food. We ordered a scotch platter to share and thoroughly enjoyed it. When in Scotland!

After Vicky tipped up, we took the short walk to Glasgow Green to see something called ‘trials.’ Trials consists of hopping along on your bike over various obstacles without putting your foot down. You have to complete five different courses of different materials. Stones, barrels, massive concrete blocks, tree trunks, and wooden fence poles.  Trials is amazing! Because this was the semi-final trials was completely free! We stayed to the very end to see the British competitor top the leaderboard going into tomorrow’s final.

The stones

Because it was the semi-final there were very few spectators and we could watch from the front row. There were loads of competitors falling off from on high but they merely pick themselves up and carried on. As we were watching the stones one of them got a bit wobbly, so a man came along with a hammer and began bashing. Unfortunately he had to move as a competitor was on the course. As you can imagine the competitor fell off and scraped his leg down the wobbly stone. As he fell he cried out “did I get the point!” He did. Alex met us during the denouement of the competition, although we did stay to the very end. We then walked back into central Glasgow and had a lovely tea at a restaurant in merchant city.

Not long after we were winging our way back to Blantyre station and Dame Shirley Bassey. A quick watch of the first Premier League game of the season where Manchester City thrashed Burnley 3-0, and it was time for bed.

OS Watch

I used my OS tracker to track my walk through Glasgow, but my battery in my phone was running low and I became afraid so turned it off. This is just the walk to Glasgow Green.
