Summer In Devon - The Cotswolds

There was no sound of any rain in the night, but it was certainly cooler and more cloudy in the morning. I took Misty rabbit hunting, but no joy, before rustling up porridge and toast for breakfast. Ian was busy talking to his biker friend, who was readying for departure. We did manage to eat breakfast outside despite the chill in the air.

We would be moving on today and I had mixed feelings about Devizes camp site. The rules were practically nil, anything goes basically, although everybody followed the rules there should have been. It was lovely being close to Vicky and next to the canal. But the toilet block let it down. Ian’s pet hate, push button showers. Tiny stalls too. They also closed it all day on the Thurs for maintenance and there was no hot water when it reopened.

Our next, and final stop, would be the Caravan and Motorhome club site near Bourton-on-the-water. This site has no toilet block, we thought we would try one without. It was an hour and a half drive from Devizes. The lady on reception was very friendly. Apparently many people arrive without realising there is no toilet block! Who does’nt read the small print? Sadly, the site is earmarked for full automation so there will be no one to greet you in the future. We chose pitch 11 from the many on offer. I had gone for grass as well but no need for donuts as the pitch is very level. Ian got the awning up while I cooked some very successful poached eggs just with water and a pan! First time in my life. As we ate outside, it began to rain. Rain! In the daytime! What witchcraft is this? We retreated inside to wait it out.

It did stop raining but was a bit chilly so we grabbed our coats to take Misty on a short walk to the nearby village of salperton. The end of the dog walk leads to a bridleway which leads to a road. We got to the road and decided to turn back. Salperton didn’t look like it had much to offer. The walk was very pleasant though. We met only one person, the warden from the campsite walking her dog. A Range Rover did pass us going back towards the site. Then re-emerged a short time later. Dumping a body we thought.

The road to salperton

Back at Dame Shirley, we had planned a barbecue but the rain and the cold began again so I rustled up some chicken indoors. We watched some TV, including the new question of sport, which I don’t like. Also, would I lie to you, which I haven’t really seen before but found hilarious. We finished off with gogglebox before Ian threw Misty  out and I went to bed.

Kathy, Vicky, and Einar, however, we’re having some fun at the New York stadium

The caravan across from us arrived mid afternoon. They are here for a week and hadn’t realised the site has no toilet block!
