Norfolk - Sandringham

We woke to full sunshine, thank god, and Ian took Misty for a stroll up the lane. We chilled before the crossword off (🤷🏻‍♀️) then had porridge and toast for breakfast . We prepared for departure quickly, then Misty and I stood back with fingers and paws crossed to watch Ian try to reverse Dame Shirley off the nice dry mud. Thankfully he managed it first time so we stopped at a lay-by and had bacon butties.

I really liked The Shieling, just not the mud! If we had got pitch 3 we would have had a lovely sea view. The shower room was nice but no washing up facilities. All in all a solid 7/10

It wasn’t long till we rolled into The camping and caravan club site at Sandringham. A very friendly lady greeted us and took us to a nice pitch under no trees, but worryingly near to the childrens playground. It was also near to a toilet block, but there are three toilet blocks and this one was closed. Never mind. We got set up and, due to the sunny weather decided on the awning.

Awning up

This is a humongous site, seems to stretch for miles. So much so that when we decided on a walk to the house we went out of the wrong exit and added a mile on to the distance! We walked up through the woods spotting loads of muntjac deer on the way. The house has a lovely coffee shop and ice cream bar so we partook of both. It also has a magnificent adventure playground, the likes of which we didn’t have when our children were little. Also, sadly,  much more safety conscious . We reminisced about the many accidents had on old fashioned playgrounds. A circular path took us back to the site where we rested outside with a tinny.

Massive trees

That’ll have to go

Tiny muntjac

The rain began soon after sending all the children home, and leaving the site quiet and peaceful.
After a shower in the very large shower block I threw in the pies from the deli in Cley. They were delicious. Worn out we settled down to watch the footy, Middlesbrough 5 Norwich 1, before I threw on my big raincoat to take Misty out. It was lashing down. Wouldn’t want to be in a tiny tent tonight!

That extra mile detour made all the difference

Nature watch

As forementioned, loads of Muntjac. Lots of jays. Red kite.

Neighbour watch

Where to start! Back at the Shieling we got into a conversation with a couple who were Derby season ticket holders. Warne is doing a fine job with his hands tied. The EFL is corrupt for docking them points. They can only sign (enormously expensive) loan players. Mmmmm.
Then at Sandringham the guy in the little camper van next to us has a tiny old dog who won’t do as it’s told so he keeps yelling at it. If another dog comes near he shouts ‘don’t go near, he can be nasty!’.
Just behind him is a man who Ian has taken a dislike to. He was spouting off, very loudly, about his amazing London Lifestyle while making tea in his portable Pizza Oven! Yes, Pizza Oven! Shame about the rain.

  1. “So much so that when we decided on a walk to the house we went out of the wrong exit and added a mile on to the distance”. The “we” in this instance was the person with the map who announced we were doing the yellow walk. When we arrived at a crossroads I looked at the map and discovered we were at the wrong crossroads 🫣

  2. Surely one crossroad looks just like another.
