Northumberland - Alnmouth

After yesterday’s dreariness, Friday dawned bright and clear. A great day for a bike ride, and uplifting for our spirits. Another full English set us up for the day, before we took Misty up the hill for a little walk. Then Ian got the bikes off the back, we got togged up, and were off to follow National Cycle Route 1 to Alnmouth. It was half off and half on road, but the roads were so quiet and the drivers so considerate that even I wasn’t too worried. We followed the off road path to Craster before a bit on road to Howick. There we picked up the coastal path. This stretch to Boulmer was fantastic, loads of little beaches and magnificent sea views. It helped that the day was so bright and sunny we could have been in the Carribean!

After many stops to view the scenery, we rolled into Alnmouth. We found a seat outside the Alnmouth Village golf club (oldest nine hole course in England) and Ian went off for coffee and a crab sandwich. Plenty of crab in Alnmouth!

Then we were off back along our favourite coastal path. We stopped for a rest and a flapjack in a little bay where we watched the seabirds and the calm seas for a bit.

Eventually we arrived back at Dunstan Hill, where Misty was eager to see us. We had coffee and showered then decided to walk along the road a bit to a little Pizza Hut for tea. Very nice it was too.

Back at Dame Shirley we watched the England match and gogglebox. What a lovely day we had. The events of yesterday seem in the dim and distant past and I am ready to move on to a new chapter in my life. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank for manager anyone?
