Bolton Abbey

Image
As Dame Shirley had to go in for her annual check up to Peter Roberts caravans in Holmfirth, we decided another weekend away was in order. This one to the Caravan and Motorhome club site at Bolton Abbey. Due to heavy rainfall forecast we made a last-minute decision to leave misty at home with Chris. Arriving at Peter Roberts caravans around 10am we got the bus into Holmfirth and had a very damp look around and shop. Around 1pm we adjourned to a local pub for lunch and dragged it out until it was time to get the bus back.  Moroccan Beef A Fish and Chip Sandwich!! Dame Shirley was just ready as we arrived so we set off in the rain for Bolton Abbey. Sir Georgie Kelly guided us, not without some difficulty due to Friday evening traffic, to the entrance road leading to the Bolton Abbey campsite. He did mention a narrow road ahead, but what he did not mention was a very low narrow Archway over the road which had Ian worried. However he negotiated it manfully and we were soon pullin...

Summer in Devon - Bourton-on-the-water

I slept in until past eight, as did Ian, who’s turn it was to do Misty. So I rolled over and laid in some more.  It was a little chilly with drizzle so we both put trousers on before having the last of the porridge for breakfast. We are down to the bare basics now. Our plan was to take the hail and ride bus, no 801, from outside the site at 12.20, have a look round Bourton, eat, maybe a walk, and get the 5.10 bus back. Best laid plans and all that.  At the bus stop It started well with the bus arriving in good time, so we hopped on and soon arrived in the town. It. Was. Heaving. Made Woolacombe look quiet. I have never seen so many people on tiny bridges. Loads of Americans, Chinese, Japanese visitors too. It’s obviously a stop on the standard Cotswolds tour. We had a walk around and Misty found a nice Ford for a drink and a paddle. Misty paddle Busy bridge Coffee As we passed the bus stop I checked up on the bus times. Mmm. The timetable said no bus at 5.10 on Saturday....

Summer In Devon - The Cotswolds

Image
There was no sound of any rain in the night, but it was certainly cooler and more cloudy in the morning. I took Misty rabbit hunting, but no joy, before rustling up porridge and toast for breakfast. Ian was busy talking to his biker friend, who was readying for departure. We did manage to eat breakfast outside despite the chill in the air. We would be moving on today and I had mixed feelings about Devizes camp site. The rules were practically nil, anything goes basically, although everybody followed the rules there should have been. It was lovely being close to Vicky and next to the canal. But the toilet block let it down. Ian’s pet hate, push button showers. Tiny stalls too. They also closed it all day on the Thurs for maintenance and there was no hot water when it reopened. Our next, and final stop, would be the Caravan and Motorhome club site near Bourton-on-the-water. This site has no toilet block, we thought we would try one without. It was an hour and a half drive from Deviz...
