Abbey Wood - The Run

Image
Neither of us had a very good nights sleep. Ian because he was wittling. Me because when he can’t sleep he turns on a searchlight he borrowed from checkpoint Charlie in order to look for his ‘headspace’ app on his phone. This helps him drift off. Till it doesn’t,  then he needs the searchlight etc, etc.  He needed to be at the start for 9.30 so we decided on the 7.45 tube, leaving the site at 7.25. At 7.25 he was still pfaffing so I set off without him, me being a slow walker. He caught me up just before the station and we were soon heading smoothly towards Bond Street, where we changed to the rubbish tube for Green Park, the chosen stop.  We walked to the enormous number of toilets, then milled about a bit and Ian went to the toilet again. I forced him to do some stretches as all the bright young things were stretching all over the shop and I felt it must be necessary. Around 9.20 we arrived at the start and he passed me all the stuff he had brought but deemed unnec...

Abbey Wood - A day out

Image
After a lovely nights sleep I awoke not to birdsong as I expected, but to Ian grumbling about cover theft. He clearly does not have strong handclaws like me. As I opened the  blind over our bed I was in a perfect position to watch the Green woodpecker feeding her chicks. How lovely.  The woodpecker tree We did the crossword off, which I won due to Ian not knowing what a Penny Dreadful is, then sat outside to eat our breakfast of porridge and toast. Not a cloud in the sky. April breakfast Al Fresco We did a lot of pfaffing then Ian began his exercise routine. What with this and that, his routine has expanded recently to about an hour and features a whole plethora of extras. These include a ball, a rubber band thing, a massive foam roller the size of a Rottweiler, and a spiked medieval torture thing. Every single inch of his body is pummeled and prodded to keep him in prime condition. It can be very soothing for me as it gives me a lot of free time. It can be most annoying...

Abbey Wood - A New year in Dame Shirl

Image
Sadly for us, it was early April before Dame Shirley saw her first outing. Happily for us, the reason was our Ruby wedding cruise. Over the winter Ian had prepared a new shelf to go by the sink. It looks very nice. The heating had  broken, but Ian was able to mend it with the help of Olaf on utube. And Chris had got me a lovely new light for Christmas. Gorgeous new shelf The reason for the trip to London was that Ian was running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in aid of Alzheimer’s Research, and also to check out The Caravan and Motorhome Club Abbey Wood site. This is the nearest site to central London and very popular. Ready to run Although we were all locked and loaded, our plan to leave around eleven was scuppered because Ian had to take his mum to the doctor. She had a chest infection and, he reported, was in a prickly mood. Still, with her all treated and settled back home, we were able to leave around midday.  It was great to be out on the road again. It was red...
